One of the newer bands to hit the Buffalo music scene (2010), Breakaway has rapidly become the “must see” band. Combining expert musicianship, amazing vocal harmonies and unmatched energy and stage presence, the band brings a wide variety of music from many different eras. Whether it’s the Beatles, 70’s funk, 80’s hair metal, classic songs by Journey, Bon Jovi, and Aerosmith, or today’s rock, you can expect a great show.
Scott Panfil – Vocals
Jeff Tocher – Lead Guitar and Vocals
Bruce Decker plays piano, organ, synth, harmonica, trombone, and guitar. WOW
Jay, aka Taz – Drums
Mike Schill – Bassist and Vocals
Here they are performing this summer at Dock At The Bay. Probably the hardest cover song to pull off ever, but give them credit for trying. I thought it was pretty good.
Killswitch Engage Comes to The Town Ballroom December 14th
Killswitch Engage is an American metalcore band from Westfield, Massachusetts. It was formed in 1999 after the the bands Overcast and Aftershock broke up. Killswitch Engage’s members are: vocalist Jesse Leach, bassist Mike D’Antonio, guitarists Joel Stroetzel and Adam Dutkiewicz, and drummer Justin Foley. The band has released five studio albums, Killswitch Engage (2000), Alive or Just Breathing (2002), The End of Heartache (2004), As Daylight Dies (2006), and Killswitch Engage (2009). In recent years they have toured with popular metal bands like Five Finger Death Punch and Trivium.
I know this music isn’t for everyone, but nothing is better for getting you pumped up. They have an amazing stage presence, and the instrumentals are among the best out there. Here they are in 2001 performing one of their most popular songs:
Billy Talent is a Canadian melodic punk rock band from Mississauga. They formed in 1993 with Ben Kowalewicz as the lead vocalist, Ian D’Sa on lead guitar, bassist Jon Gallant and drummer Aaron Solowoniuk.
Originally named Pezz the band was renamed in 2001, and the rest is history. Billy Talent has made two multi-platinum records in Canada, and continues to expand their success overseas, this included touring for 20 months supporting their third album. They released their fourth album Billy Talent III on July 14, 2009. On May 29, 2012, Ben revealed that the band’s fifth studio album, entitled Dead Silence, was released September 4 and will be followed up by a full UK tour over the course of October and November 2012.
Billy Talent will be at The Town Ballroom Sunday Dec. 2. The Town Ballroom seems like a small venue for the band, as they have played for crowds of more than 100,000. This should be an amazing show. Although I have never seen them live, I plan to go to this one in Buffalo. In videos I’ve seen online, the crowd is insane and Ben is all over the stage. This group of excellent performers will not disappoint.
Check out this performance on a TV show in Montreal from September 2012.
This past weekend I was lucky enough to be able to go see The Tragically Hip with several of my friends in New York City at Terminal 5. This was my first Hip experience, and who better to go with than a bunch of super-fans. It was an amazing weekend. Almost the entire drive from Buffalo was spent listening to The Hip. Mind you, I always liked the music, I just never got into it like these people. You would think I’d have been sick of it by our arrival, but that wasn’t the case. Sure the music is different, but it’s good.
Terminal 5 was probably the coolest place I’ve ever been to for a concert. Just look at it:
The concert was amazing. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I have great respect for any group that sounds just like the CD’s when they play a live show. These guys are incredible performers. They played for over two hours, and the whole time Gordon Downie was up to his usual antics. Here he is rowing across the stage with the mic (yea I was that close!!):
And GUESS WHAT:
The Hip are Coming to Salamanca (Seneca Allegany Casino)
Seriously, if there is any way for you to get to this show, get there. After seeing them in NYC I wish I could go this weekend, too. The show is this Saturday at 7pm.
The Tragically Hip are coming to Buffalo, specifically Salamanca, but close enough. On November 17th, this famous group will play at the Seneca Allegany Casino.
Before that show, they will be in NYC playing at Terminal 5….and I will be there!!!
The Hip is a Canadian rock band from Kingston, Ontario, consisting of Gordon Downie (lead vocals and guitar), Paul Langlois (guitar), Rob Baker (guitar, known as Bobby Baker until 1994), Gord Sinclair (bass) and Johnny Fay (drums). Since their formation in 1983 they have released 12 studio albums, two live albums, 1 EP, and 54 singles. Nine of their albums have reached No. 1 in Canada. There is a lot of talent and experience in this legendary band.
Here is a video of what I have to look forward to this weekend, and what to expect at the casino when they come to Buffalo:
I actually made it out to Elmwood this weekend to see The Albrights, and the show was AWESOME!!! These guys are a very talented group. I took a video, a crappy one…sorry, but you can still here a great song from the Albrights. I didn’t catch the name of the song, but here it is:
Next time these guys are playing, I highly recommend going. One of the top local live performances I have seen in a while.
